Weblog Commencement

Let's be real, you don't care about me or any pretentious attempt to sell you a carefully crafted image of myself, so I won't bother. All you need to know about me at this point is that I'm a cynical thirty-something year old living in Essex with my wife and three young children trying to see if I can make my hobbies into something vaguely resembling a career. The chances are slim but it's probably about time I ignored my inner-critic and gave it a proper go, so here I am.

In terms of the content here it is going to be proudly irregular and varied. Irregular in the sense that I'm not just going to post some irritating nonsense nobody wants to read just so I can jog the internet's algorithm and varied in the sense that I refuse to adopt a niche topic and spend the rest of my life religiously writing about it. The old phrase quality over quantity seems to be out of fashion these days but I would rather spend several weeks researching and writing an essay which may be of some use to others than spend twenty minutes every day writing vapid listicles and rehashing other writer's how-to guides.

There will be themes though which broadly speaking will cover ecology, politics and history but I shall also venture into more esoteric subjects on occasion, speaking on spirituality and things most blogs wouldn't touch with a barge pole because of it's potential to invoke the wrath of wokeness. In addition to this I shall also be covering walking and outdoors camping and cooking which should hopefully complement the historical content. This is still my blog though and basically I'll cover whatever takes my fancy.

All of my writing will be done in conjunction with my own photography which is my main focus as I attempt to take this beyond a hobby and into a profession. I shall mostly be specialising in black and white film photography, not just for aesthetic purposes but also because it offers the greatest chance of longetivity. Besides, it's a good place to start in terms of the disparity in equipment when you compare yourself with others that have thousands upon thousands of pounds worth of gear. In any case, we'll see how it goes.
